Minister of State Michael D’Arcy to Open DCU and IC4 National Conference on Cloud Computing and Commerce

Minister of State, Michael D’Arcy, will open The National Conference on Cloud Computing and Commerce on Tuesday, April 10th 2018 commencing at 09:30 at Dublin City University Business School. This event is designed to raise further awareness of the role cloud computing can play in helping to drive economic growth, support job creation and deliver savings and efficiencies in the public and private sector in Ireland.

The Irish Centre for Cloud Computing and Commerce (IC4) is a multi-institutional research centre located at Dublin City University. It was established in February 2012 by Dublin City University, University College Cork and Athlone Institute of Technology when it was awarded funding for the initial research programme for the Enterprise Ireland/IDA Cloud Computing Technology Centre.

Minister of State at the Department of Finance, Michael D’Arcy TD, responsible for Financial Services and Insurance, will address industry attendees at the National Conference on Cloud Computing and Commerce on Tuesday, April 10^th, 2018. The Minister will open the 9.30am session on Capital Markets and Fintech: Open Banking (PSD2) and Blockchain. The event will be held in DCU Business School and The Helix, Dublin City University.

Minister of State D’Arcy has commented:

“I am looking forward to discussing the recent transposition of the revised Payment Services Directive (PSD2) in Ireland, its implications regarding regulating new market players, enhancing consumer protection and ensuring competition, with relevant stakeholders.”

The National Conference on Cloud Computing and Commerce (NC4) is Ireland’s premier cloud computing event for both industry and researchers. Now in its seventh year, NC4 aims to raise further awareness of the role cloud computing can play in helping to drive economic growth, support job creation and to deliver savings and efficiencies in the public and private sector in Ireland. Audience profile includes the CIOs, CTOs and Founder/CEOs of leading technology SMEs and start-ups, entrepreneurs investing in technology for growth as well as IC4 member representatives from leading corporates such as IBM, Siemens, Intel and Oracle.

The conference consists of three parallel tracks, which focus on different aspects of cloud computing in the first half of the day, followed by dual tracks in the early afternoon and then the closing plenary session in the evening. A list of speakers can be found here.

Each of these morning streams will feature current IC4 research with a blend of industry and academic insights:

– Fintech Innovation, PSD2 and Blockchain

– IOT for Smart Cities and AgriTech, Data Protection

– Data Centre innovations and Ireland’s Data Centre Strategy.

These will be followed by parallel sessions in the afternoon on Digital Transformation, Artificial Intelligence and Ethics.

The headline plenary session brings together all delegates to The Helix featuring stand-out presentations from technology evangelists and thought leaders Clare Dillon and Connor Cullen.
