ESB has announced a three year partnership with the Science Gallery, which will see ESB joining leading global companies including Google, ICON, Pfizer, Deloitte and NTR Foundation as members of the Science Circle.
To celebrate the new partnership, ESB will host a series of free workshops in collaboration with Science Gallery’s Makeshop this October mid-term break in Cork and Dublin. Makeshop is a unique retail experience developed by the Science Gallery which encourages people to ‘make stuff’ through guided workshops.
Workshops to make LED torches and ‘Doodlebots’ will take place in ESB locations in Dublin and Cork, including ESB Networks, St. Margaret’s Road, Finglas on Tuesday, 28 October, Aghada Power Station, Aghada, Co. Cork on 30 October and ESB Networks, Sarsfield Road, Wilton, Cork, on Friday, 31 October. Each workshop is 45 minutes long and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
The Workshops
LED Torch Workshop (Ages 10+): This workshop will give all the necessary items to participants taking part to make their very own hand held torch. Using an LED light, a switch, a resistor and a battery, participants will be taught how to solder together all elements to create a working hand held torch. The workshop will introduce participants to some basic electronic components and how to solder like a pro.
Doodlebots Workshop (ages 6+): Participants will have the chance to make a motorised robot that can race across the ground and spin in circles. It will allow them to learn about motors, batteries, hot glue guns and power tools. Adding markers to make it draw is just another level of fun entirely!
To take part in one of the Makeshop workshops in either Dublin or Cork over the October midterm break, email your interest to sciencegallerymakeshop@esb.ie, with the preferred time, location, name of child and age; places are confirmed on the receipt of a confirmation email. Places are limited and on a first come, first serve basis.
