Who are you, what’s your background?
We are an Australian enterprise data analytics startup. We are passionate about solving difficult data matching problems. Our Data Ignition platform applies enterprise search and data analytics to solve data quality and data compliance challenges that cost large enterprises and government departments millions of dollars each year.
Where you are from?
We are from Wollongong, Australia which is a beautiful coastal city just south of Sydney. It has a big university with a great ICT focus and our startup’s first days were on campus at the University of Wollongong.
Why are you planning to come to the Summit / what do you hope to get out of it?
Our products are for large enterprises and so they have global application. We have great marquee brands as customers in Australia including CocaCola, OneSteel, Bluescope Steel and both State and Federal Government. We are exhibiting at the Summit to take our discussions and relationships with European partners to the next level, and further explore our market entry strategy for Europe.
Is there anyone in particular you’d really like to meet at the summit?
We had a solid week of discussions with global partners in London last week and we have a good schedule lined up already this week in Dublin. There’s so many great tech leaders here that we’re able to connect with. I’m actually excited to hear what Jimmy Chamberlin (Smashing Pumpkins) has to say.
What are you working on?
We have an underlying data analytics platform that brings a completely new approach to the problem we are attacking. On top of that general platform we are building a number of concrete applications that solve specific business data problems such as Duplicate Invoice payments, Customer data, Supplier data and Payment Terms optimization.
What is awesome about it?
Our technology is generations ahead of what competitors are doing in the market. Our new approach finds more real results with dramatically better accuracy and less noise, and we do it in a way that is faster, simpler, requires less effort and provides greater financial savings for the organization. We love going head-to-head in comparisons against existing players because it allows us to demonstrate how much more business value our technology and approach delivers, and how easier it is to use.
Where do you hope to be in 3 – 5 years time?
We’ve got a next-generation technology platform that’s all about delivering new levels of business value, solving complex data challenges for large organizations. We’re excited about extending our customer base into the US, Asian and European markets and working with global partners to build out world-class solutions for data challenges in other verticals.
How is it trying to develop and scale a project and product in Wollongong?
Wollongong is a great base for developing ICT software. It’s a scenic location with great beaches and a low cost of living that provides great quality of life. There is a wealth of ICT talent coming out of the local university and a great entrepreneurial ecosystem being nurtured. Its also easy to retain your talent because people love living in Wollongong.
What is the broadband / wifi like where you are based?
Australia has a National Broadband Network being rolled out which should be a real game-changer if we get what’s being promised. At the moment, broadband is adequate but not in the league of what is available elsewhere.
Social media, which ones do you use, what for?
We use LinkedIn and Twitter for pushing out announcements and updates on what Selera Labs is up to.
What sort of results is it bringing you?
We’re an enterprise software company, so social media is not our primary engagement mechanism for our target market, it’s more a secondary adjunct for personal networking.
