Irish Tech News IoT Awards 2017 – Judging Complete and Agenda Confirmed!
1 min pitch for what you are doing now?
The hot areas for Action Point now is where we are merging IoT and Augmented Reality for our clients to deliver mind blowing Smart Manufacturing solutions.
How were the last 12 months, what worked well, what didn’t move as quickly as you would have liked?
What has worked really well since the start of 2017 is us seeing the customer conversations shift across the board from the “that’s interesting” to “so how do we get started now” agenda. Internally in Action Point we jokingly refer to 2015 and 2016 as the Internet of Talk and not Things. That is contrasted with 2017 where we are seeing companies getting off the fence and investing in internet of things based MVP projects to test their assumptions and determine where is the real business value in IoT. We work very closely with the Dell IoT team across EMEA and the work they are doing there in helping their clients embrace IoT over the last 12 months has been amazing.
On another point, as a key IoT partner to Microsoft, we have been really pleased to see the Azure IoT platform maturing in particular over the last 12 months to the point where now it has truly become a platform we can leverage to reduce our development times and which offers out of the box the security, scalability and flexibility required by our clients.
In terms of what didn’t move as quickly as we would have liked, it will be great to see more enterprise grade AR headsets being launched which will accelerate adoption.
What are your plans for the future?
We continue to invest in our Augmented Reality practise as this ties in beautifully with IoT, especially in the area of Smart Manufacturing, a particular area of focus for Action Point and where we are very strong.
What will you be talking about at this event?
Augmented Reality and IoT – Natural bed fellows under the Smart Manufacturing duvet!
What inspired you to speak at it?
A particular Irish politician got some criticism in 2016 for quoting Ireland as “the best small country in the world in which to do business”. In the case of the fast growing Irish IoT community, this quote does apply and is a real virtue. Gatherings such as this in DCU Alpha are hugely productive in terms of sharing ideas, learning from peers and talking with customers.

Which influencers and websites do you follow to keep up to date with the latest developments?
In all honesty I struggle to consume all of the IoT noise that is out there. In addition to Irish Tech News! my best source of information is talking with peers in the IoT industry and listening to what my customers are saying.

Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?
Just to say I’m looking forward to the event and thank you for the invitation to speak.
