Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Workplace, reviewed

This book is helpful, and covers useful and relevant points. However it does also seem like one book that may have fallen into the BC problem, ie of having been written prior to the covid-19 outbreak. While many debate what the ‘new normal’ will be like, and if we will return to pre corona ways, in the workplace it is clear that things will not be the same again.

The genie is out of the bottle, remote working is no longer a privilege to be granted in exceptional circumstances, rather it has become the default setting for many many members of society. While it is true that some jobs will require workers to return to a physical place of work, it is already apparent that the rules of engagement have changed, and will need to be enforced until at least 2021, if not for well beyond that too.

This is not to take away anything from this book, but there are issues and topics that will need to be considered, and policies and best practices redrawn immediately. As always this reflects the challenging nature of the publishing business, to write the right book at the right time and to not be overtaken by events either.
