Meeting Your Social Media Objectives

We are at the end of the first month of 2020 and already Marketers are checking and rechecking their goals and objectives.

Social Media is an online “chat” about your shop window (your website).  I know I should probably say that having a social media presence is the be all and end all, but it really isn’t!  OK, Irish Tech News maybe has a hefty following on Twitter, granted.  Yet all of that, in every single tweet (pretty much), drives people back to our website.

We want people to visit and explore our website because that’s where they can best learn everything about our business in one place.

An objective is ultimately a strategy which you build upon and create and also utilise a Sales Funnel.  There are plenty of examples of these on a Google Search that you can “borrow” and build yours.

Measurement

So now we’ve established what an objective is, we need to measure the success of it.  There’s little point continuing something that doesn’t work but if you don’t have a benchmark and goal, its difficult to measure.

You can simply do this through the analytics that each platform offers freely and they all allow you to download their stats to a .csv.  Personally I prefer to use a third party, like Hootsuite which  provides a free one you might prefer using and if you want to go the Paid route there are several others again.  Please note this post is NOT sponsored!  I use AgoraPulse and find it ideal for myself and my clients, but there are lots of other third party platforms you may enjoy too.

Be in Charge of the Goals

Some marketers may want to be daring and go for insane goals and a lot will obtain them,  If this is new for you, its worth being a little more realistic.  There is nothing quite like hitting and even exceeding your goals, quite enjoyable in fact.

So Benchmark your business today.  Write on a sheet of paper or a white board what your current stats are and alongside it say where you want to be in a months time and build a competent strategy that will take you there.

Types of Objectives

There are so many that will reflect your type of business.  It could be footfall, conversions, Likes on social Channels.  Their are such things as Vanity Metrics which is Likes to be honest.  The real metrics that matter to your business on Social Media would be engagement, conversion and (still well up) there email signups.

Engagement

Simply put Engagement is Community.  If you measure you can see where your ambassadors and advocates are for your business.  People LOVE personal recommendations and these people are vital for business development, most especially in hard times.  Always make time to engage respond and support your community.

Conversion

This makes sense as this is fundamentally money in your account!  We all want to be a community supporter but we all need to make a living too.  By measuring your conversions, you can see what tips them over the edge, or what doesn’t.  Its a fantastic area to build upon and helps your deliver what your audience wants to see from your business.

Conversions are purchases, a completed call to action or as the next one shows, email signups!

Email Signups

Once you have your community talking about you, then you convert them, you need help them going forward to ensure customer loyalty.

Its so much easier to keep existing clients and look after them than try and continually garner new clients!

If you maintain a reliable and responsive relationship with your existing audience, you are much more likely to get repeat  business and have them as your ambassador.

Only this week I was back training a client of mine that I got in the  first year of my business in another area of social media.  That’s 6 years later!

So if you’re looking to buck up your social media success and still want to start in January, sit down and start your Benchmarking today!
