Limerick Youth Service, Three Ireland & An Cosán Virtual Community College (VCC) announce partnership

Three Ireland and An Cosán Virtual Community College (VCC), in partnership with Limerick Youth Service, are delighted to announce a new fully funded online community development programme for Limerick’s young adults.

Beginning in early May, the ‘Introduction to Community Development’ course is a six week programme and is aimed at young people (18+) who are interested in gaining skills in digital literacy, social action and youth leadership while it will explore democratic participation in the age of the internet. The interactive course will also investigate and identify strategies and practical approaches to support digital citizenship.

The course, which is fully funded by money raised by Three Ireland employees at its Limerick-based call centre, will be delivered at Limerick Youth Service.

Liz Waters, Director of VCC said “We believe that the use of technology and virtual learning is the best way to break down barriers and make education more accessible. We were introduced to Limerick Youth Service by our partner, Three Ireland as their mission sits very well with ours and we are delighted to now be launching this collaboration with them”.

“Three Ireland has been a wonderful support to us over the last number of years through skills-based volunteering and fundraising, and their team of 450 people in Limerick have been involved with numerous initiatives. It was always the desire that any money raised in Limerick would stay in Limerick so I’m delighted to see the money raised going to fully fund this programme” she added.

Speaking about the programme Maurice Walsh, Youth Work Manager, Limerick Youth Service said “We are delighted to work in partnership with VCC and Three Ireland in this excellent initiative where participants will learn new innovative skills that will enhance their employment and educational opportunities that will stand them both personally and professionally.”

“It is fitting that the course will break down barriers and make education more accessible as equality is the theme of this year’s Youth Work Ireland Week, which coincides with the information evening” added Mr. Walsh.

Ahead of the launch, an information evening will be held at Limerick Youth Service on Thursday, April 27th from 4-6pm with staff on hand to give details about the programme from its outline to outcomes.
