By Oscar Michel, Masters in Journalism, DCU

Application for the Start Tel Aviv (TLV) Ireland competition closes tomorrow on July 26th.  The pitch night for finalists to be held in Dublin on 1 st
August 2017.

July 12th saw the launch of the Start Tel Aviv (TLV) Ireland competition an international start-up competition.

A 5 day intense start-up experience to learn from the start-up ecosystem in Tel Aviv and a meetup with leading investors and multinationals will be organised for the top innovative start-up companies from over 20 different countries.

The winners will also be given the opportunity to attend Israel’s leading tech conference DLD Tel Aviv from 3rd to 7 th September 2017.

Over the last number of years, Start TLV-Ireland, has become one of the ‘must win’ start-up competitions.

Tel Aviv was named Europe’s leading tech hub by the Wall Street Journal and ranked by Start-up Genome as the 2nd best place in the world to open a start-up! The city is a leading innovation hub with world-class tech talents, dozens of leading multinationals and hundreds of tech star start-ups.

This year, the global competition will focus on “Making the World a Better Place” – showcasing tech startups serving communities, social challenges and urban innovation including health and wellness.

“Ireland and Israel are two small countries on the opposite edges of Europe with many similarities in terms of innovation, entrepreneurship and technology focus. We are delighted that Ireland has been selected again as one of countries for START TLV 2017, validating Ireland’s place amongst the leading hubs for innovation and start-ups as leading light for Health & Well-Being entrepreneurship” said Clyde Hutchinson, organiser of the event.

During the past events, Girl Crew, Trustev, Bizimply and Logograb have won the competition. All of whom have used the competition as stepping stone for wins in bigger competitions, expand their international reputation and raise finance.

The local competition to find the most innovative Irish start-up was initiated in 2013 and coordinated by the Ireland Israel Business , a bilateral business-to- business forum established in 2012, with the aim of generating the foundation of greater business opportunities and connections between
the two countries. The Business network now has 1000+ members and runs frequent start-up focused events in both countries. The competition this year is supported by leading technology firm Amazon Web Services.

Interested companies can apply to participate via the competition website.
