Kingspan, the global leader in high-performance insulation and building envelope solutions, has partnered with the Big Life Foundation, a leading conservation organisation working to protect over 1.6 million acres of wilderness in the Greater Amboseli ecosystem of East Africa. The partnership reflects Kingspan’s commitment to delivering lasting positive impact for both people and the environment under its Planet Passionate programme.
Through this multi-year partnership, Kingspan will sponsor Big Life’s Nairrabala Ranger Unit, safeguarding the 37,500-acre Nairrabala Conservancy in Kenya. This vital wildlife corridor ensures free movement for animals linking Amboseli National Park to the wider Amboseli–Tsavo–Kilimanjaro ecosystem.
Since its establishment in 2024, the ranger unit has patrolled more than 38,000 kilometres, prevented retaliatory lion hunts, reduced human-wildlife conflict, responded to emergencies, and fought fires.
With Kingspan’s support, this collaboration enhances protection across one of Africa’s most ecologically significant landscapes and East Africa’s largest elephant corridors. Big Life works to conserve roughly 2,000 migrating elephants, including some of the last remaining super tuskers, while providing critical habitat for over 200 lions, one of the few lion populations in Africa that is growing rather than declining.
“For decades, the lion has been at the heart of Kingspan’s identity, as a symbol of strength and leadership. With this partnership, that symbol takes on even greater meaning as we commit to protecting lions in the wild and the ecosystems they depend on,” said Kingspan’s Sustainability Programme Manager, Ciara Crosby. “By supporting the Nairrabala Ranger Unit, we are helping to safeguard a vital wildlife corridor and one of Africa’s few growing lion populations. This partnership reflects our Planet Passionate commitment to ensuring that the protection of our natural world goes hand in hand with supporting the communities who live alongside it.”
Big Life operates at the forefront of community-led conservation, employing over 500 local Maasai rangers, making it one of the largest community wildlife protection forces in East Africa. Their work has delivered measurable successes, including reductions in poaching and the arrest of some of the region’s most notorious poachers.
Beyond wildlife protection, Big Life provides vital benefits to communities, including scholarships, healthcare, family planning services, community crime response, and search-and-rescue support.
“None of this work happens without our supporters. Partnerships with donors are crucial – corporate sponsors like Kingspan protect elephants, lions, and their habitat and empower local communities. To achieve our long-term goals, Big Life’s operations must grow, and continued financial support is the only way to make that happen,” said Big Life Foundation’s Chief Operating Officer, Craig Millar.
Kingspan will work with Big Life over the course of a three-year partnership, supporting the organisation’s goals of protecting critical wildlife corridors and strengthening community-led conservation across the Greater Amboseli ecosystem.
