We met Keith Ferrazzi @ferrazzi  at the Dublin Pendulum Summit, he had a great rapport with the crowd and an interesting story to tell. We thought it might be interesting to find out a little more about what he is currently up to, and his take on coming to Ireland.

It seemed like you had a good time in Dublin. How do the Irish seem to differ from Americans, from your perspective? Pros and cons?

I had an amazing time in Ireland. I felt like an honorary Dubliner. Everyone was so welcoming. And I think that’s one of the biggest differences. In the U.S. we can be a lot more business-minded and less likely to embrace people as friends. We’re good at compartmentalizing relationships. In Ireland, at least on this trip, I felt everyone was much more open to developing the friendship, first.

Your plans for 2015?

My biggest goal for 2015 is building momentum for my new company Yoi

Tell us about your new company, how will it help?

My new company is called Yoi, which is the Japanese word for getting better. We’re building a digital platform to help companies and specifically managers provide better onboarding experiences for their new talent. This is crucial in today’s economy – especially with younger new talent. Retention and tenure are directly related to the quality of the onboarding experience. Did you know that more than 60% of new hires decide whether to stay in less than 90 days?

Philanthropy, your take on it?

You always have to lead with generosity. Ask how you can serve first. Whether its in a philanthropic way or just one-on-one. It can sound a little idealistic, but it really is better to give than receive. To that end, though, I have personally worked with the foster care system in the U.S., and encourage my company to undertake service projects on at least a quarterly basis.

What technology makes you life easier?

I’m amazed at the technology tools that are available these days. With my smart phone I’m able to stay in constant contact with my business teams no matter where I am in the world. I’m also very excited about how easy it’s getting to measure things – from fitness to personal well-being to workforce performance.

Life / work balance, tips, words of advice?

Yeah, for me, it’s not about balance, it’s about blending: bringing my professional life into my personal life. I like to host a brunch after my Saturday workout and invite candidates and potential collaborators to join me. Or I’ll host a dinner party to combine the different aspects of my life. Maybe it goes back to why I had such a fantastic time when I visited Ireland, but I think that by bringing both elements together, I form deeper relationships with my business associates. We’re more than just colleagues – we’re friends.

Sport, any use to help you to achieve your work goals?

I’ve always been an athlete, but at this point, I love to get in a great, intense workout. I might invite people to join me, but mostly it helps me focus my attention and keeps me energized.
