By @SimonCocking. We caught up with the multi-talented Jillian Godsil, journalist, broadcaster and former European Parliament candidate. She has gone viral several times. She has worked all over the world – UK, Australia, Singapore – and has written for business and technology publications globally. See more on her blog here.
What you’ll be speaking about?
Backwards in high heels… I shall be speaking to the experience of returning to work after a break. For working women the break can be anything from maternity leave, to care giving to redundancy – but the stakes are higher for women as too as the fences.
Why will it be of value to go?
The impediments to returning to work are tough. It is not good enough to say we have to try harder. That’s like telling someone with depression to pull themselves together. We need to recognise the issues and then deal with them.
What tips you’d give to others based upon your own business experiences over last 12 months?
Keep busy, keep very busy.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Push those boundaries – especially if they are outside your comfort zone.
What’s the worst that can happen? That you fail, that you try again, that you fail again? Could be worse – trust me. And read here. And always, always embrace humour!
The event takes place at Dublin’s RDS from the 28th to 30th of April 2016. The unique event is aimed at working women, women returning to the workforce and women entrepreneurs to provide them with insights, advice and knowledge that will help enhance their own confidence, strength and positivity in the workplace.
HERizon founder Maura Byrne said, “We wanted to create a really worthwhile event that will empower women and make them feel more confident. We conducted a small survey in recent weeks and confidence was the number one factor that women believed held them back in their working life. Women are really open to learning from others on how to progress their career and that’s what we are aiming to do with HERizon.”
In addition to a series of talks, HERizon will comprise four exhibition villages including:
Tickets for HERizon are on sale now with limited early bird one day tickets available for €39 which includes entry to talks and exhibitions. Ticket can be purchased on tickets.herizon.ie or by phoning 01 685 2677.
