ITB Department of Informatics holds Third Annual ZeroDays CTF – Ireland’s Biggest Cyber Security Challenge

The Institute of Technology Blanchardstown has announced it once again hosting ZeroDays CTF, a cyber-security challenge, on Friday week April 7th from 10am at the Generator, Smithfield, Dublin.

Zero Days was established to allow Irish third level students develop their information security skills and techniques in a fun and controlled environment through a number of exciting ‘capture-the-flag’ security challenges with the winning team crowned Ireland’s National Cyber Security Champions.

Created and run by Mark Cummins and Mark Lane, lecturers on ITB’s Cyber Security and Digital Forensics courses, Zero Days is sponsored by ITB, Amazon, RITS, Integrity 360 and new sponsors for 2017 are EdgeScan, Ward Solutions and Workday and is the largest cyber security challenge of its type in Ireland

Throughout the day, 52 teams with over 210 participants will use their own background and skill-sets to solve technical challenges, all of which will have some link to the fun Super hero and villains theme, capturing points as they work their way through the puzzles and problems. Domain challenges will range from web application vulnerabilities, social engineering and exploitation to forensics, reverse engineering and cryptography, as well as a couple of treasure-hunts around the Smithfield area.

The Capture the Flag competition will run throughout the day and will be followed by a well-deserved after-party and networking event, featuring live bands and a DJ from 6pm.
