Look, no driver… the EasyMile EZ10 shuttle pictured in Toulouse. The first driverless shuttle in Ireland will make its debut in Dublin’s Docklands on September 21st and 22nd. The special event organised by Dublin City Council as part of its ‘Smart Docklands’ project and in partnership with the Civic Group will bring a glimpse of the future of smart and sustainable transport to Dublin. The Easymile ‘EZ10’ is a driverless, electric shuttle bus, which can carry up to 15 people and is ideal for last mile transportation in particular. It features a built-in access ramp for passengers with reduced mobility and there is no need for additional road infrastructure to operate the vehicle. The vehicle has ‘state of the art’ smart technologies with advanced cameras, processors and sensors that enable the trip to run smoothly. The ‘EZ10’ is currently in daily operation at locations in the US, Holland, China and Estonia and is expanding globally. Picture: Antoine Heusse
Earlier today the first driverless public transport vehicle in Ireland took to the streets of Dublin. The EZ10 took its first trip through Dublin’s Docklands and its one kilometer route takes in 4 stops, starting at the Convention Centre and ending at the 3 Arena on North Wall Quay.
Trips on the EZ10 are featuring in the ‘Future of Mobility Showcase’ event on North Wall Quay take place tomorrow from 11 am to 5 pm, and it is also one of this year’s European Mobility Week initiatives. The event organised by Dublin City Council as part of its ‘Smart Docklands’ project in partnership with the Civic Group brings a glimpse of the future of smart and sustainable transport to Dublin. Earlier today I interviewed Neil Cunningham the CEO of the Civic Group and you can hear the interview here.
I also got the chance to take a trip on the EZ10 which is fully electric, takes 6 passengers sitting and 9 passengers standing and it has a top speed of 24km/h. I made a periscope video of my trip on Twitter which you can see here.
