On the internet, privacy and safety go hand in hand. Without one, the other would be difficult to get. When you go online, privacy isn’t a given because you expose your identity to everyone. Even if you are hiding behind a username, you are still exposed. If anyone wants to find out more information about you, they can do so in a matter of minutes, or even less.

It’s one of the greatest things about the internet: information if readily available for everyone. It’s also a bad thing because everyone includes those who want to do harm to others. As much as you value your privacy in the real world, you should be more so when you go online because you never know who would be going after you.

Unfortunately, privacy isn’t a given when you go online. You have to do something to get it. That’s the only way you can ensure that you are on the web safely. You may tell the world your name but make everything else classified information. Don’t let anyone know where you live and give out your phone number.
