Interesting interview with Patrice Bernard

1 min pitch for what you are doing now?

With 2 Canadian cofounders (Éric Mac Nicoll, who will be with us in Bordeaux, and François Boulet) I have started a new venture, Kaira, which aims to become the first financial wellness coach that understands its user. However I keep writing daily about innovation in financial services on my blog, “C’est pas mon idée !” and I still occasionally do some consulting for corporates (mostly in the financial sector).

In 10 years from now banking will become invisible

How was the last year, what worked well, what didn’t move as quickly as you would have liked?

The launch of the Kaira app is the priority and it’s going pretty well so far, although it could always be faster. We think we have a great concept, the people we have been talking to about it are enthusiastic and this feels energizing. Now, we have to deliver and this is a little more frustrating as it takes time to materialize our vision. We are still on track to release our first version in Spring, though, and we start looking for possible investors to get along on our ride.

What are your plans for the future?

There is only one plan at this stage: make Kaira a success. What I mean is our ambition is not only about building a great product and a great company but, above all, creating something that is really useful to everyone, making them feel better with their money (and thus their live in general). Concretely, this will translate in a lot of work in the coming months to build the solution we have in mind, especially for me, as Kaira’s CTO.

What will you be talking about at this event?

There are so many different aspects to open banking, it is difficult to focus on one or two in particular! Let’s just say that, starting with the DSP2, which was supposed to be an eye-opener for the financial industry, it has become a huge disappointment to realize that most institutions still don’t seem to get the extraordinary opportunities that comes from opening themselves. At the other end of the spectrum, I love to project myself in 10, 20 years from now and envision a world where banking has become invisible thanks to the servicization that is just nascent today (and with the help of Kaira, hopefully!)

What inspired you to attend it?

I always like an opportunity to get out of the closed ecosystem in Paris, meeting with people who try to change the world from other places around the world. This Fin&Tech Summit is an ideal event in this respect, since it combines a chance to mix, discuss, exchange, debate… with representatives from the vibrant FinTech ecosystem in Bordeaux (and the rest of France) as well as with a few stars from all around the world.

Which influencers and websites do you follow to keep up to date with the latest developments?

Brett King is my favorite influencer and has been for (almost) 10 years. For my blog, I  keep up with more than  200 information sources, ranging from specialized publications – Finextra being my #1, I guess – to the virtual press rooms of the most innovative financial institutions around the world, through Twitter accounts of a selection of startups.

How can people find out more about what you are working on?
