IADT Technology and Psychology Showcase

Industry focuses on IADT

The Department of Technology and Psychology at Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology held its annual Student Showcase on May 13. Students from programmes in applied psychology, computing and media technology presented their graduating projects. Our focus is the coming together of people and technology in a digital environment. We offer dynamic and exciting programmes that combine technical skill and knowledge with an understanding of how technology operates in society. The convergence of psychology and technology, digital media and entertainment, human computer interaction and usability provides many creative research opportunities for us and our students.

The Showcase was opened by Anne O’Leary CEO Vodaphone Ireland and attended by the Cathaoirleach of the county, Councillor Marie Baker and Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD and representatives from the technical, creative and cultural industries. After the opening industry representatives and invited guests met with our students to view and discuss their projects in further detail. They also offered career opportunities to many of our new graduates.

From September 2015 we will welcome new students to our BSc (Hons) in Creative Computing and our BSc (Hons) in Creative Media Technologies as well as our well-established BSc (Hons) in Applied Psychology. We plan to offer masters in User Experience to complement our MSc in Cyberpsychology. We will continue to run our range of short accredited programmes in research methods, cyberpsychology, sport psychology, HCI and data visualisation.

The Department is one of three in the Faculty of Film, Art and Creative Technologies. The Department provides academic leadership to the Faculty and the Institute in the areas of technology, psychology, human computer interaction, usability and learning.
