HP launches “Mobile Connect” Global Mobile Broadband service

HP has launched a pre-paid mobile broadband service in partnership with Cubic Telecom for customers who purchase select models from their HP ProBook, HP EliteBook and HP ElitePad 900 range.

HP Mobile Connect provides local and international coverage using the wireless infrastructure of major mobile network operators. Customers can choose from several plan options for use within their specific country or a “Fearless Roaming Plan” which provides service across multiple countries.

HP Mobile Connect service is available now in Europe with local plans available in Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands and the United Kingdom. HP is offering a free trial and local plans start at €1.25 for three hours of service.

Fearless Roaming Plans are available now for Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Additional Fearless Roaming Plans will be available for China, Hong Kong and the United States by the end of 2013.

Full price listing:

While this offer is limited to HP customers only, it represents great value for data roaming and a welcome shift away from the usual domestic network’s extortionate pricing for a similar service.

The majority of the domestic networks in Ireland charge €0.55 per MB of data while roaming. This is the maximum allowable charge set by the EU in their attempts to reduce the cost of roaming within the single market. With HP’s pre-paid option that would drop to €0.04 per MB for a 3 hour pass in the Netherlands for example.
