We look at this perspective on how to achieve financial independence published by Wiley, available here, by a pseudo anonymous author
Happy Ever After: Financial Freedom Isn’t a Fairy Tale, reviewed
This is a bit of a curate’s egg of a book. There are numerous illustrations, which some may like. There is an actual author for the book, but they have preferred to go by the pen name of the 7 dollar millionaire, due to some saving’s tips outlined in the book, which centre around putting away that amount each day.
We found the book seesawed between big goals, fantastic end results, and then a paucity of details about how to achieve these results. Yes it does say save money everyday, aim to have x25 the total amount you spend every year, and own three houses so that you can rent two of them out and live in the third. Which all sounds wonderful, but at times you would then double back and wonder if you missed the specifics about how to advance along this road map.
This book may work well for some people, it can be very much a horses for courses approach with books like this. For us the series of fairytale / non fairy tale homilies in italics just became a little distracting after a while. And again, we found ourselves scanning them twice to see if, like Paolo Coelho, we had missed the gem in the ashes. For some it may well be there, but we found ourselves yearning for a bit more detail and a bit less fluff. We did wonder if it was going to touch on crypto currencies too, the current route to potentially x10 and more riches, but this book stayed safely in more generic and non specific terrain.

Discover how financial freedom – and not fairy tales – is at the heart of your very own Happy Ever After
Did you know you can become a millionaire by saving just $7 a day and investing for 7% returns? Probably not, because financial literacy is a subject that’s overlooked by the vast majority of schools and universities, despite its importance to every single person on the planet.
Written initially for a teenage daughter and then turned into a course to train migrant workers, Happy Ever After: Financial Freedom Isn’t a Fairy Tale focuses on the fundamentals of understanding money, saving and investing, showing how the “magic” of compound investing can transform tiny initial amounts into genuine wealth. Finally, it shows readers how to achieve the “Freedom Formula” of 25x your annual spending – that can set you free.
Perfect for anyone who hopes to make their future financially brighter than their present, or help their own children avoid mistakes they made, Happy Ever After has a playful tone, featuring a spoiled princess and talking frog, hand-illustrated to help explain some of the trickier ideas that can help change your life.
