The premiere annual conference for European green building professionals, Greenbuild Europe, will take place at Croke Park, Dublin this March 24th and 25th. Over 400 sustainability professionals from 35 countries are expected to attend the two day conference which covers all aspects of sustainable design, construction and operations practices for buildings and communities, including their impact on people, the environment and the economy.

Early bird registration is now open, until 19th February, with group rates available at https://greenbuild.usgbc.org/europe/register.

Greenbuild Europe comes to Dublin

The US Green Building Council (USGBC), organisers of Greenbuild International Conferences and the developers of the LEED green building programme (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), provide a forum for the green building community to unite, change lives, revolutionise business and address the world’s most pressing problems by allowing those in the building industry to better understand how their work impacts human, as well as environmental and climate health.

Just announced is the opening keynote speaker, Tom Szaky, founder and CEO of TerraCycle, the global leader in collecting and repurposing hard-to-recycle waste. TerraCycle operates in over 21 countries, engaging over 200 million people and recycling billions of pieces of waste through various innovative platforms, rather than incinerating it or sending it to a landfill.

“TerraCycle has always strived to eliminate the idea of waste and our values are well aligned with those of Greenbuild Europe,” said Szaky. “Through TerraCycle’s National Recycling Programmes and Loop, a new circular shopping platform, we make reducing waste as straightforward and convenient as possible, and I am very excited to be able to share our story with the attendees of Greenbuild Europe 2020.”

“The circular economy and managing waste streams has become an incredibly important part of green building, and something we need to continue to explore further,” said Kim Heavner, vice president, conference and events at USGBC. “Tom and TerraCycle are innovative voices in our rapidly changing world, and his experience will bring an exciting and insightful addition to Greenbuild Europe.”

The conference will also feature a closing keynote from former Irish Times Environment Editor and author Frank McDonald, as well as remarks from USGBC and Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) President and CEO Mahesh Ramanujam.

Europe is currently home to more than 6,500 LEED projects, representing more than 185 million gross square meters of space. In 2018, Turkey, Germany and Spain were among the top 10 countries and territories globally for LEED green building.

Each year, the conference moves throughout Europe to highlight the exemplary work being done across the continent in green building, and to make quality educational programming available to all. The inaugural Greenbuild Europe took place in 2018 in Berlin. In addition to Europe, Greenbuild events are hosted annually in India, China, Mexico and the U.S., and are the premier convener for the green building industry.
