Author Ronnie Cummins aims to educate and inspire citizens worldwide to organize and become active participants in preventing ecological collapse.

This book offers a blueprint for building and supercharging a grassroots Regeneration Movement based on consumer activism, farmer innovation, political change, and regenerative finance—embodied most recently by the proposed Green New Deal in the US. Cummins asserts that the solution lies right beneath our feet and at the end of our forks through the transformation of our broken food system. Coupled with an aggressive transition toward renewables, he argues that we have the power to not only mitigate and slow down climate change, but actually reverse global warming.

This book is a clear and logical call to action, with a defined road map for how to get there. Regenerative farming plays a key role in Cummin’s vision for how we can achieve a better situation for both the climate, our farming, food, and a more egalitarian state of affairs for humans too.

Cummins has clearly got his hands dirty in trying to advance these goals and articulates well what needs to be done. The one thing we would have liked to see more of would have been specific examples and case studies of who has done it well. Perhaps these elements might appear in a second edition of the book. This is perhaps more of a call to arms, but, thankfully as the year has evolved since this published, it is potentially becoming a case of less needing to make the case for why this is important, and rather a question of what needs to be done, how, and when it can be ramped up as soon as possible.

Grassroots Rising is a useful addition to the literature on this subject and if it helps to nudge and inspire more to take action then it will have been a successful book to have written in 2020 as we look forwards to 2021.
