Gojek and TBS Energi Utama form a partnership in electric vehicle industry

Gojek, Southeast Asia’s leading mobile on-demand services platform and PT TBS Energi Utama Tbk (TBS), a major integrated energy company in Indonesia, formed a partnership to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in Indonesia. The joint venture called Electrum will serve as a platform for both corporations to establish infrastructure for two-wheel electric vehicles across the country.

Electrum is part of Gojek and TBS Energi Utama’s commitments to achieving Zero Emissions by 2030, with Gojek transitioning its fleet to 100% electric vehicles and TBS investing in clean and renewable energy. The agreement also aligns with Indonesia’s intentions to make the development of the electric vehicle industry a national priority.

The two companies will collaborate to establish a comprehensive and scalable electric vehicle ecosystem, including two-wheel EV manufacturing, battery packaging, battery swap infrastructure, and financing for EV ownership.

Gojek and TBS’ Strengths

“We have always recognized that strong industry collaboration will be crucial to help solve the most pressing environmental challenges that society faces today. By bringing together the best of Gojek and TBS’ strengths, we will be able to support Indonesia’s transition to building a cleaner, more accessible and sustainable mobility system – ultimately making EVs the norm in our country, contributing to the country’s emissions reduction targets and improving air quality in our cities”, said Kevin Aluwi, Gojek CEO and Co-founder.

Pandu Sjahrir, Vice President Director of TBS, said, “TBS is fully committed to sustainability and our target of achieving net zero emissions by 2030. This collaboration with Gojek is part of our commitment to reinvest our current earnings in clean and renewable energy, in line with our business transformation goals and aim to become a greener business.”

He also added that as EVs become more widely available, they hope to inspire greater confidence in members of the public to give it a try and enjoy the many benefits of EVs.

Gojek has recently introduced a similar pilot programme in Jakarta with Gogoro, Gesit, and Pertamina to test electric vehicles and battery swapping. This will start with 500 electric vehicles, with intentions to expand to 5,000 vehicles covering a total distance of one million kilometres in the future.
