GoCar launches on-street bases with South Dublin County Council

Irish car sharing company GoCar, in partnership with South Dublin County Council, has launched seven new on-street bases in the South Dublin area as part of a pilot car club. The move comes in response to the success of the car sharing initiative with Dublin City Council, which has seen increased demand from local residents and businesses since GoCar was launched in 2008. GoCar also recently launched a pilot with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.

GoCar identified the seven new on-street bases for members of the car club in the South Dublin area as follows; Lucan Village, Tallaght Village, Templeogue Village, Palmerstown Village, and Rathfarnham Village, with Rathcoole Village & Clondalkin due to be launched shortly. Drivers can visit GoCar.ie to request a GoCar in their community.

The new launch offers South Dublin residents and businesses an easily accessible car and is an alternative to car ownership, replacing between 10-15 private cars per GoCar on the road. With pay as you go pricing and no subscription charges, it’s ideal for people who only need occasional access to a car but don’t want to own one, or families who need a second car sometimes.

GoCar users can book cars online or via the app for as little as an hour, then unlock with their phone or GoCard; the keys are in the car, with fuel, insurance and city parking all included. Rates start from €8 per hour, with 50KM of driving included on each trip. Since it was launched in 2008, over 10,000 drivers have signed up to GoCar, and it now offers over 215 vehicles across 160 locations.
