Games Fleadh 2019 gives students unique insight into 138.5 billion dollar industry

Students with ambitions in the gaming industry will get a unique insight into the 138.5 billion dollar industry and access to some of the world’s most successful gaming companies and representative bodies at this year’s national Games Fleadh.

In its 16th year, Ireland’s Games Fleadh will take place on Wednesday, March 6th, at the Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) Campus, Thurles.

Student software developers and game enthusiasts of all levels will come together to participate in this popular one day LIT/Microsoft event.

Games Fleadh 2019 Organiser and Game Design & Development Degree Lecturer at LIT Dr Liam Noonan said, “Games Fleadh showcases the best of the third level game development community. It is also a unique opportunity for third level students to demonstrate their games to industry veterans and gain valuable feedback on their creations.”

In its 16th year, Games Fleadh continues to lead the way in recognising the brightest and best among the country’s student game developers, while also bringing together the collective knowledge of some of the leading names in the gaming industry

This year’s event is no exception, with representatives from Microsoft, EA, Gambrinous Games gathering at the Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) campus in Thurles on Wednesday, March 6th 2019 to lend their support to an all-island games design and development competition for third-level students.

Games Fleadh 2019, is free of charge and open to the public. It is of particular interest to second level students with an interest in studying Computer Science or a future career in this competitive industry.

Games Fleadh 2019 will also feature competitions such as a Game Studio ‘Platformer’ themed competition and Robocode. Competitors will be in with a chance to win one of the many EA title prizes available.

Speaking at the launch of Games Fleadh 2019, Dr Noonan added, “The video games market is larger than the music and movie business combined, with revenues of 138.5 Billion dollars for 2018 being reported by Bloomberg. Games Fleadh continues to be a fantastic networking opportunity for the Irish game development sector. We believe that it also offers a fantastic networking opportunity for teachers to engage with third level institutions and explore best practice in teaching coding concepts.”

Games Fleadh will feature a keynote talk by Gambrinous Games  as well as talks from leading industry professionals from Microsoft and EA.
