Five Motivational Tips for Entrepreneurs in 2019
By Diana Clark
The main difference between running your operation and being a part of a large corporate machine is that business owners don’t have anyone setting their daily goals, planning their events, making important decisions. It’s up to each entrepreneur to develop a business plan, formulate optimal decision-making methods, and lead the brand forward.
No matter how dedicated or focused on success, it’s a real challenge to always make a good decision or succeed in our endeavors. According to statistics, 80 percent of startups don’t make it through the second year. The most common reasons behind the failure of an average startup include market or capital deficiency. However, no matter how bad it is, there’s always the chance to pull your business from the gutter and start running on profit if you keep your motivation going. Therefore, we devised a series of tips that should help you see the light at the end of even the darkest tunnel.
Don’t get obsessed about your vision
You should have a clear vision of your company in the future, something to aim for and keep you working. However, if you spend most of your time thinking about your goal it would be difficult to see the steps you need to take to get there. Elon Musk claims he spends only half an hour during the week thinking about Mars colonization, while the rest of his time is dedicated to milestones along his path.
If you feel like you don’t know how you’ll get to where you’re headed, just focus on the road you need to take, try to envision all the necessary walls you need to jump, buildings you have to raise, and people you need to get on your team to help you along the way.
If you can’t do it, someone can
It’s completely understandable if you want to be the driving force behind every major accomplishment and operation of your enterprise. However, you don’t have to be a multitalented person to get things done, you just have to find the right person to do the job the way you need it to be done. Take content marketing for example, if writing is not your finest skill there are agencies like Assignment Holic and others that can produce marketing content you deserve. Compartmentalization and work delegation are the most useful tools for any business owner who wants to get things done when things are not going his or her way.
Mingle with the likes of you
Success is a magnet, everyone wants to hang around successful people, however, when we hit the bottom it often feels like we’re alone and no one knows what we’re going through. The truth is, there are a lot of people in your position, no matter where you are at this point. An article published by HuffPost clearly shows the benefits of spending time around other entrepreneurs, sharing stories and experience, exchanging information and working on solving common problems. It’s the best way to keep your mind locked on the idea that whatever challenges you’re facing, there’s always someone who shares the same burden.
Set up a routine
John Mayer, Co-founder and CEO of Lemonly, says that he stays motivated through routine daily activities. His plan is rather simple, each morning John spends around 20 minutes planning on eight daily activities he needs to see through. At the end of the workday, you just check your list and see what you managed to accomplish, and which tasks are left undone. According to Mayer, if you plan each day individually, you’ll have a better daily organization and more comprehensive control of the events ahead of you.
Know when to stop
Most entrepreneurs who are now successful have dozens of failed projects behind them. The only reason why accomplished business owners are not defined by their past failures is that they knew it’s time to move on to the next business endeavor. There are clear signs that you should abandon ship and move on before it’s too late like constant losses, work-related health issues, inability to develop minimal market influence, as well as several other business failure indicators.
Moving on will help you avoid deeper financial or medical problems that might have long term consequences that you could have difficulties to cope with. Furthermore, timely decision to leave a failed project will keep you with enough energy to devise a new plan.
Conclusion
Perhaps the best way to stay motivated is by doing something you enjoy, rather than focusing on money-making options. It’s always a good idea to start working on something that matters to you, like turning your hobby into a business. If you enjoy your work, professional aspects like revenue, market influence and branding will not be your major concern. Your motivation will run on pure love for your occupation, and that’s when success is all but 100 percent certain.
