While Facebook continues to find more and more ways to charge you to promote your page and content, it continues to be a huge source of traffic for website owners. What’s more, the traffic it drives is growing quickly. According to the report below, year on year there has been an increase of 150%!
The report by Shareaholic, who analysed the traffic composition of more than 200,000 websites around the globe between June 2013 and June 2014, showed Facebook now drives almost a quarter of the overall traffic to these websites.

On the other hand, Twitter has remained flat over the last twelve months. Even with more and more businesses turning to Twitter due to Facebook’s charges, it seems Twitter still falls behind when getting people to click through from a Tweet in their timeline. Of course results will vary and there is the argument that companies use Twitter for band building rather than traffic generation, but what’s clear is that small businesses need monitor their social media strategy closely to see what works for them.
