Event Preview: Career Zoo

When and where is it on?

It’s on Saturday 6th April at the CHQ Building and Dogpatch Labs on Dublin’s North Docklands. Doors open 10am-4.30pm. Employers will be on the ground floor at CHQ, our main stage will be hosted by Dogpatch Labs upstairs.

How many years has it been going?

January 2010 was our first event. This is our 15th Career Zoo event. We have a sister event called 404 which has had one event in Dublin and one in London.

What was the inspiration to start it?

In the depths of the recession we realised there was a need for an event that brought together employers and candidates with the right skill sets. There was a queue of people out the door and many of those had unfortunately lost their jobs or were graduates looking for their first jobs and finding it difficult.
The event has turned 360 degrees since then. The majority of employers at our event are looking for experienced techies and there’s a lot of competition for those candidates, so there has been a real shift in power since the first couple of events. Candidates are really experienced, know who they want to work with, are very mobile and want flexibility. They also want to work with great teams on exciting projects. A good salary and a table tennis table aren’t enough anymore.

What exciting things can people look forward to?

As well as the chance to network with leading Irish and multinational employers and find out about exciting tech projects, attendees can also check out our speaker sessions upstairs in Dogpatch Labs. Topics include latest innovations in Tech, Biotech and Fintech, and Diversity and Culture and Wellness workshops. It’s a very positive event and a brilliant opportunity to network with your tech peers, not just HR folks.

What opportunities are on offer for those attending?

Top tech companies will be at Career Zoo this April 7th to hire experienced professionals in software, data, security, fintech, devops and other areas.

Who will be speaking?

Industry leaders will be taking part in panel discussions and workshops, all hosted by Jess Kelly, Tech Correspondent and presenter of Tech Talk on Newstalk.

What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?

Register in advance, you’ll be prompted to upload your profile including your CV or GitHub account and then you’ll be able to share your info with employers you choose at the event. Check out the event app in advance and plan your day!

How can people book tickets?

You can register right up to the evening of Friday 6th April.
