How many years has First Tuesdays been going?
Our First Tuesdays initiative began in early 2017 and has been growing in popularity since then.
What was the inspiration to start it?
One of our goals here at Ludgate is to build a West Cork entrepreneurial ecosystem, with a West Cork Entrepreneurs Network being a key part of this. There are a large number of entrepreneurs working in the West Cork area, many of them working on their own and without any network with which to share and bounce ideas. The First Tuesdays initiative attempts to fill this gap and have a focal point whereby these entrepreneurs can come to Ludgate once a month, (though we’d be delighted to see them more often) and spend the evening with like-minded individuals. Everyone knows that when we work together, we achieve so much more: we share our knowledge; we foster experience; we spark off one another and become more innovative, all of which creates new opportunities and potentially generates new business.
What opportunities are on offer for those attending?
A keynote speaker, the entrepreneur, tells ‘his or hers’ story of achievement; from the start of the journey to where they are currently, sharing the highs and the lows, their successes and the many mistakes and most importantly, the learnings which they have had along the way – these really are the key take-aways.
One great thing about these events is that while the speaker will usually have worked in one sector or industry, their story is relevant to all entrepreneurs. They’ve all had to make hard decisions over the course of the years, and the real learning is from these. No matter how long anyone of us have been in business, there’s always something to learn from others.
The evening also provides an opportunity to network with peers, meet some potentially new customers/clients and tell others about your own business.
Speakers to date have included Jerry Kennelly (ex Stockbyte), Michael Carey (Bord Bia and East Coast Bakehouse), Cully & Sully and Peter Coppinger (CEO & Founder of Teamwork) .
