Interesting interview with Chadwick Xu (CEO of SVV) is also co-founder of one of China’s largest manufacturing companies (ZOWEE Technology). He co-founded the factory in 2004 and made an IPO in 2010. They work with global clients such as Huawei, Xiaomi, Samsung, Nokia, and many others, producing over 100M products annually.
What is your own background briefly?
I am from a farmer family in Hubei province, came to Shenzhen in 1992 right after graduation, spent the first 3 years in Shenzhen working on production line of cassette player, gradually promoted to manage the factory. Then started my own manufacturing facility in 2004 together with my partners, got the company listed in 2010, and now in the middle of building a new business, SVV.
Briefly, my background may somehow reflect what China went through in the past 40 years, diversified and changing in fast pace.
Does it seem like a logical background to what you do now?
It’s a combination of logical and coincidence, but it might be the best I can expect, even though this new venture of SVV is still tough to run, I would say I can’t complain with what I have.
"We are not afraid to say, that our #manufacturing could be the best platform in #shenzhen for #b2b #startups. Let's get your product made…

Entrepreneurial insights, how to create a successful company, Chadwick Xu
How was the last 12 months? What were your big wins?
The past 12 months is like a roller coaster, feel like witnessing part of an extraordinary history, and my small business is just a drop of water in the unrest global storm. The luck is that we finished our internal infrastructure just before the pandemic and it gives us extended room to adapt ourselves to the challenge.
What would you have done differently?
There is not much that I could have done to make the company better prepared. Just thinking loud, If I could foresee what 2020 brings, I would hold this new business, do nothing and just watch where this world goes to, the study of the on-going history and being part of it would really be a chance of a lifetime.
1 min pitch for what you are doing now / how are you managing during these corona times?
The past factory business is basically selling the value of Chinese labors globally, in form of different products. SVV is trying to sell the value of Chinese engineers, in form of co-development and NPI (new product introduction) production, primarily to AI/IoT software developers and corporate digitalization arm to build software+hardware projects.
The big challenge brought by Corona is the stop of physical visit, while hardware requires extensive face to face discussion. On line model works for software development collaboration, but dramatically decreasing work efficiency for hardware, we don’t see a good solution yet.
Why do you think it is such a powerful idea?
AI/IoT will be a game changer in the coming industry revolution, it’s led by software and algorithm, but in many cases, the commercial application of these software/algorithm needs hardware as the vehicle to deliver. Shenzhen has the most and the best execution level hardware engineers, if we could build a business model that bridge the bonus of Shenzhen hardware resource, and AI creation in China or globally, it could be a good business and also, a good opportunity to get connected with the most innovative teams and projects for our future investment section of business.
How can people find out more about you personally & your work?
This is actually our weakness point, me and all of my partners are from manufacturing industry, we got used to staying in the backstage and our clients are in the spotlight. SVV will remain in the same role, but we need to improve our business exposure, so that more people can understand who we are and what we can do to help their ideas materialize faster.
Who and where do you get inspiration from?
There are gifted people like Steve Jobs, Elon Mask and Ren Zhengfei, rare but influential, their success goes way beyond business, and mix a great deal of idealism into it. I dreamed to be such a people when I was young, but getting to my age, I already realized my limitation that I am not gifted to be one of that greatness, but I would love to contribute my help to people that may have that potential. Most of SVV’s clients are startups, some of them may grow to that level.
Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?
Despite the fact that this pandemic already caused tremendous damage to economy, took jobs away from tens of millions people, and it may continue to go worse and even have the potentiality to bring the worst ever worldwide depression, but I still believe that this detour doesn’t change the evolution of technology.
The coming AI and robotics, production efficiency could be elevated to the level of creating more than enough living material for every people on this planet, and on one side, keep on replacing human on more and more repetitive works, and on the side, providing enough living materials for people that don’t work. This will be the first time in human history to eliminate poverty of materials. Our age will likely see it happen, and hopefully SVV could serve as a tiny section in this evolution.
