Emoji And New Filters Arrive On Instagram

This article originally appeared on 60 Second Social.

Instagram have just upped their emoji game. The company updated its Android and iOS apps on Monday with the ability to add emoji hashtags to posts along with three new filters to use for your photos.

Instagram’s hashtag feature will now support the use of emoji, so if you comment or leave a caption with the hashtag symbol emoji will now be searchable. Previously, emoji would not appear in a hashtag search. You can now add a string of emoji to a hashtag if you wish and the searches will appear with emoji visible.

Instagram acknowledged just how important emoji have grown over the past number of years. They wrote the following in a blog post.

“Over the past few years, emoji have become part of a universal visual language, With emoji hashtags, you can discover even more by adding them to your own photos and videos, searching them on the Explore page and tapping on them when you see them in captions.”

The update also included three new Instagram filters: Reyes, Juno and Lark. Reyes will bring a “dusty vintage look to your moments,” while the Lark filter emphasises blue and green tones in a photo. Finally Juno will “tint cool tones green while making warm tones pop and whites glow for vibrant photos of people.”

Instagram has also noted that they want to update the App filters more often. In the last update they included two new filters called Ludwig and Crema. They have been among the most popular filters recently, but don’t get worried about your filter tray getting too cluttered. You can choose what filters you want to hide and rearrange their order in the “manage” menu at the end of the app filter list.
