eir today launches its new 5G mobile network, which has gone live in 10 towns and cities across the country. Beginning with 100 5G sites across Ireland’s 5 largest cities (Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford) as well as Carlow, Castlebar, Dundalk, Drogheda and Kilkenny, it will allow eir customers to enjoy the unrivalled speed and reliability that 5G offers with peak speeds over 1Gbps.

Another 100 sites will be launched in the coming weeks, bringing coverage to Athlone, Bray, Ennis, Letterkenny, Sligo, Tralee and Trim in time for Christmas. A further 100 sites will be added early in the new year to bring the total number of towns and cities with eir 5G coverage up to 20.

5G is available to eir customers on a range of 5G devices including, the Samsung A90 5G, the Samsung S10 5G, the Samsung Note 10+ 5G and the Huawei Mate 20X 5G with prices starting from only €99.

eir CEO Carolan Lennon said that “I am delighted to launch eir’s 5G network, giving our customers widespread access to the next generation of mobile connectivity. With 5G, our customers will be able to download their favourite shows instantly, to stream high definition content without buffering and to enjoy lag-free low-latency gaming. Most significantly, it will substantially enhance business connectivity and we are proud to play our part in creating the strong telecoms infrastructure that is vital to Ireland’s continued growth.”

Lennon continued, “eir is by far the largest investor in telecoms in Ireland and this launch is a part of our €1 billion capital investment programme to build the very best network experience for our customers. eir is transforming its mobile network and 5G will complement on-going upgrade and expansion of our 4G network, which will bring high voice and high-speed data coverage across more than 99% of the population of Ireland, allowing our customers to access high-speed data services on the most expansive 4G mobile network in Ireland.”

5G services will be available on eir’s Connect Plus plan, which includes No Limits Data, Unlimited Calls & Texts, 100 International Minutes and Texts and access to the new eir Sport App. The plan starts at €49.99 for eir broadband customers and €59.99 for non-eir customers. No Limits Data means that customers will never have to worry about how they use their 5G data on Ireland’s largest 5G network.
