Eco-friendly, Cornish inspired Mizzle shoes launched by Allbirds

Allbirds, the cult sustainable footwear and material innovations brand, is about to unveil its next innovative design – the water resistant Mizzle collection. This comes ahead of the brand shutting all of its EUR & US stores this coming Friday as part of the Climate Strike – a cause very close to the brand’s heart.

Eco-friendly, Cornish inspired Mizzle shoes

Backed by Leonardo di Caprio and loved by the likes of Michael Fassbender, Barack Obama, Hugh Jackman and Amanda Seyfried (to name a few) Allbirds are solving yet another comfort problem as they create their first shoe that keeps feet warm, dry and unbelievably cosy during the cold, wet English weather, with even the name inspired by the Cornish expression for drizzle.

Typically, weather-resistant footwear comes at an environmental cost, seeing as it is riddled with harmful chemicals. So when Allbirds set out to create their first all-weather shoe, they decided to design the Puddle Guard, a breathable, water-resistant layer of bio-TPU between the wool upper to keep water from soaking through and protecting from soggy socks. With this latest evolution, Allbirds have become an all-climate, all-season option equipped with durability, simple design, premium natural materials, and of course, best-in-class comfort.

Available to buy instore and online in two styles, the Wool Runner-up Mizzle (£130) and the Wool Runner Mizzle (£115) have an even thicker Merino wool lining than the classic Wool Runners and is reinforced with weather-repellent natural materials. The thicker SweetFoam™ sole coupled with FSC-certified rubber traction pads and deeper treads keeps you grounded when things get wet and slippery.

For this collection, the UK is the only market to receive a country-specific colourway, which Garden Blue with a cream sole and Garden Blue with navy sole.

Allbirds today announced that they will participate in the youth-led Global Climate Strike on Friday September 20th by closing their US and European stores and offices during the demonstrations, encouraging employees to march and support a cause that’s close to the sustainable shoe brand’s heart.

San Francisco-based Allbirds, which makes shoes and socks from premium natural materials, including ZQ-certified Merino wool, sustainably sourced eucalyptus tree fibre, and a green EVA sole made from sugarcane, launched in 2016, but established itself as a Public Benefit Corporation already in 2015. The company is also a certified B Corp, focused on conserving the environment and treat purpose as seriously as profit.

Joey Zwillinger, co-CEO and co-founder of Allbirds, said, “The environment is one of our most important stakeholders, and as we grow in size and influence, we have an opportunity — a responsibility — to use our voice to speak out against inaction in the face of dire consequences of climate change.”

He continues, “This is a moment to demand action from our leaders in ensuring there is a healthy planet for future generations.”

All of Allbirds’s US and EU retail stores and offices will be closed during the strikes, allowing employees to take action and truly embody the ethos of the Allbirds brand.
