How open data is changing cities

Every day cities produce vast amounts of data from customer interactions and delivery of local services to new sources of data from sensors embedded in roads, buses, cameras and other devices. Many citizens now have a smart phone and increasingly expect to be able to interact digitally with city services.  The link between the smart city and the smart citizen is Open Data.  When public data is ‘open’ it can be used for the development of new products and services that can make cities more efficient and improve quality of life for citizens.

About Dublinked Open Data Platform and Innovation Network

In 2011 the four local authorities in the Dublin Region, with Maynooth University launched the Dublinked online platform where over 300 city region datasets are available online for others to access, use and share.  Our mission is to become a hub for information and knowledge exchange in the Dublin Region, bringing people together to encourage innovation, promote economic development and address regional challenges.

To celebrate 3 years of working to open up public data in the Dublin Region we are hosting the ‘Data Opens Doors’ Summit to share our lessons to date as Ireland’s first regional open data platform, showcase new data driven products, apps and services and highlight new business models and the benefits of open data for both private and public sector.

Join us to explore the big questions surrounding Open Data.

Should we become data-driven in everything we do?  What are the real opportunities and pitfalls for the ‘smart city’?  By sharing our knowledge and information can we future proof in a digitally disruptive world?  Join us for the inaugural Dublinked ‘Data Opens Doors’ summit, where a number of international experts and researchers, inspirational speakers from start-up, business and tech sectors, public leaders and  social innovators will explore these questions and share how they are using open data, big data, data analytics and crowdsourced data to innovate and improve the lives of citizens.

This event is free and open for everyone to attend.  This is a twin track event so you can move between sessions and tailor your own agenda, with sessions of interest to a broad cross section from entrepreneurs, SMES, business, technologists and developers, academic researchers, civic society and the public sector – in short anyone who has an interest in how opening up access to public information can help our cities work better and improve the lives of citizens.
