WeWork has announced an exciting event due to take place in the WeWork space in Iveagh Court on the 29th August. The event is to comprise of a panel discussion with leaders such as former Irish rugby captain Jamie Heaslip, who is a growing investor in the tech scene in Ireland. The series of events is building up to WeWork’s Creator Awards which are scheduled to take place in a number of major cities globally including São Paulo, London, Berlin, Nashville ,and Seoul. The London event will offer non-profits, entrepreneurs and members of the performing arts a chance to be honoured and get up to $360K in funding.
The purpose of the panel is to inspire people from diverse and different backgrounds to do innovative things with startups. As well as Jamie Heaslip, speakers at the event are to include Ailbhe Keane, founder and creative director at Izzy Wheels, a project which helps wheelchair users to personalise their chairs to their own style and fashion preferences and Gráinne Walsh, founder of Metalman Brewing who started her company after leaving her job as an engineer to pursue her passion for beer. The event will be presented by the presenter of Tech Talk on Newstalk, Jessica Kelly and you can book tickets here.
The Creator Awards, which are available to ‘creators’ in three different categories (‘Performing Arts’, ‘Nonprofit’ and ‘Business Ventures’) aim to offer an opportunity to as many different people as possible. Entrants are invited to apply via a simple online form and finalists for each category will then be invited to pitch their projects and businesses at the UK and Ireland’s Regional Finals in October.
The nature of the awards is to emphasise the importance of nurturing and supporting those who bring about creation and change in their communities. These creators can come from any background and can work in any field. These awards implement a system which recognizes, rewards and supports the ideas, businesses, and organisation which are driven by creators.
