Latest technologies provided by Dell Technologies transforms educational experience for school students

Partnership cultivates easy IT access to foster critical thinking, problem-solving and collaboration

IT transformation package leverages infrastructural capabilities from across the Dell Technologies family

Dell Technologies has announced that its latest IT solutions are empowering Bandon Grammar School (BGS), a leading secondary school in the South of Ireland, to transform the educational experience for its students by helping to create the future-ready classroom.

With the aim of being at the forefront of innovation education, Bandon Grammar School selected Dell Technologies as its partner in the project as it sought to harness the benefits of IT transformation for its pupils and how they develop skills of the future.

Before seeking a partner to make digital transformation a reality, Bandon Grammar School had an outdated IT system with legacy infrastructure that restricted their capacity to embrace innovative teaching methods and learning models. With 90% of tomorrow’s jobs requiring digital skills, their students risked being left in an era marked by technological change.

With this in mind, the staff of Bandon Grammar School undertook a programme to research, design and implement a future-proof ICT system. They chose Dell Technologies as the most suitable provider for their needs.

Dell Technologies sought to address this by powering the school’s IT transformation programme. Through the provision of Dell EMC infrastructure, Dell Wyse terminals and VMware support, the secondary school is now positioned to provide easy to access and use technology for all its students. In putting in place an award-winning system that utilises Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), students can now log on to their account and access learning resources from any type of device, from any location. BGS is at the pioneering stage of adopting cloud-based VDI infrastructure as a core element of the provision of ICT within the school.

Ian F. Coombes, Principal of Bandon Grammar School, said: “As a school celebrating 375 years in education, Bandon Grammar School has prided itself on continually fostering an innovative learning environment that best positions our students for future success.

“However, outdated technology has in recent times become a significant barrier in living out our mission. Our most recent School Development Plan sought to address this by embarking on an ambitious project to forge the future-ready classroom.

“The role played by Dell Technologies has proven pivotal in helping us realize that vision. From the latest Dell EMC infrastructure supporting Dell Wyse terminals and VMware software, our classrooms provide a modern learning environment with seamless access to technology for our students.”

In marking today’s news, Aisling Keegan, Vice-President and General Manager of Dell EMC, said: “At Dell Technologies, we are committed to driving innovation and student success through digital transformation. For today, schools across Ireland are in the midst of a significant shift in educational models, embracing technology to deliver both unique learning models and environments.

“By leveraging digital solutions from our family of companies, Dell Technologies has empowered end-to-end learning transformation at Bandon Grammar School through powerful technological innovation. And the results have been impressive. Technology is now a core component of daily student life, helping to feed their curiosity and shaping their teaching experience. By investing in the future, Bandon Grammar School is forging the next generation of ‘digital natives’.

“Bandon Grammar School should be commended for the leadership they have shown in developing as an ICT School of Excellence. By forging an ambitious strategy for change and embracing technology to make that strategy a reality, Bandon Grammar School and Dell Technologies can enhance learning experiences and improved student outcomes both now and into the future.”
