On Wednesday 16th June Host in Ireland will launch, via a live webinar, the ‘Orchards in the Community’ Project as part of the DCs for Bees initiative.

Through this initiative, Host in Ireland hopes to facilitate the planting of more than 1,000 mixed fruit orchards all over Ireland by March next year. Orchards play a key role in protecting our bees. This is the first time anything like this has been undertaken in Ireland.

Guest Appearances for Bee the Difference

To launch Bee the Difference, Orchards in the Community, moderator Michelle Wallace will be joined by Head of Sustainable Development & Innovation, UK & Ireland, Schneider Electric, Katie Mills; Peter Dowdall of The Irish Gardener, RTE; and Una Fitzpatrick, Co-founder and Project Manager of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan.

At the event, the topics of discussion will include why Orchards have a crucial role to play in protecting our biodiversity, how the project aims to help and support Community groups and organisations nationwide to bring fruit orchards to their locality, how and why so many businesses have signed up to the project and how it’s forming a key part of their ESG plans for 2021/22, and how you can play a part as a member of the public.

The orchards will be planted by Host in Ireland Partners and other interested companies, in collaboration with community groups and organisations throughout Ireland in November 2021 and February 2022.
