DataSolutions, the specialist IT distributor, has announced that it is raising €25,000 for the housing and homeless charity, Focus Ireland, to help in the continued fight against homelessness. The funds will be used to help secure a place to call home for one of the 1,700 families who are homeless in Ireland.
It ties in with Focus Ireland’s strategy to help tackle the homelessness crisis. The organisation is committed to providing 150 homes a year for those affected by homelessness. Since 2015, it has delivered 500 homes and aims to continue its work to support the 10,000 people – including 4,000 children – who are homeless in Ireland.
To support this plan, DataSolutions has pledged to raise €25,000 for the charity. This money will be used as a deposit to purchase a home for a family, giving them the safety and security they require to move on from homelessness permanently.
Pat Dennigan, CEO of Focus Ireland, said: “The economic situation and move away from building social housing has caused difficulties for many families in accessing affordable accommodation. This has resulted in many parents and children, who have never been homeless before, becoming homeless.
“The impact of this is huge – being homeless has a major impact on confidence levels, physical and mental health, child development and education. That’s why having the security of stable home makes a significant difference to these individuals and why we are delighted that DataSolutions has chosen us as the beneficiary of their fundraising activities.”
Michael O’Hara, Group Managing Director, DataSolutions, said: “We have found ourselves in a terrible predicament in Ireland with an ever-increasing number of people who are homeless across the country. It is the biggest social issue facing Ireland today. It is also something that our team members feel very strongly about and witness every single day in their local areas.”
“The work that Focus Ireland does is absolutely vital. If we are to really make an impact for those who find themselves without a home, we need to raise as much money as we can. The €25,000 that we have pledged will help to secure a permanent home for one of the families waiting for a house. It’s a small contribution but has the potential to change the lives of generations of families.
He added: “We are hoping, as they did last year, that our partners and vendors will get involved to support this very important cause. We’re looking forward to working with them once again to raise the required funds and we have a number of events in the pipeline to make this happen that we’re very excited about.”
DataSolutions’ €25,000 fundraising target will be raised through a number of events which will bring together people from across the IT industry, including:
Ultimate IT Channel Charity Football Tournament – The five-a-side tournament took place on Wednesday, for the
Charity hike up Lugnaquilla – Standing at 931 metres tall, Lugnaquilla is Leinster’s highest peak and Ireland’s 13th highest mountain. DataSolutions’ charity trek will take place on Saturday, June 22nd, and will be followed by food and drinks at Glenmalure Lodge.
Four-ball golf tournament – This will see 24 teams compete at Castleknock Golf Club on Thursday, August 29th. After hitting fairways and sinking putts, competitors will be able to recharge with a barbecue in the clubhouse later in the evening.
Film premiere in Rathmines – In September, DataSolutions will invite friends and family to join them for an evening of entertainment and one of the latest cinematic releases, with all proceeds going towards Focus Ireland.
