Data Protection: European Parliament Delegation to visit Dublin

The committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE), will visit Dublin, between 21-23 September, to meet with important data protection stakeholders such as the Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee TD; the Oireachtas Justice committee; Helen Dixon, the Data Protection Commissioner; Meta; TikTok and Microsoft.

The visit aims to follow up on matters relating to resolutions previously passed by the committee and the European Parliament. It is directly related to LIBE resolutions: (i) on the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation two years after its application; (ii) on the ruling of the CJEU of 16 July 2020 — Data Protection Commissioner v Facebook Ireland Limited and Maximillian Schrems and the issues raised in these documents.

Efficient enforcement of the GDPR in Ireland is essential for the proper functioning of the so-called one-stop-shop mechanism. During the mission, MEPs will meet the Irish Minister of Justice, the Irish Data Protection Commissioner and representatives of NGOs, academia and businesses.

We hope that the mission in Dublin will allow LIBE Members to better understand the challenges faced by the Irish Data Protection Authority and dispel our doubts regarding the GDPR enforcement in Ireland”.
