When and where is it on?

In the Convention Centre Dublin, 24-26 April 2018.

How many years has it been going?

First time in Ireland. Follows other global events which had occurred worldwide. More details below.

What was the inspiration to start it?

On the back of a World Tour, an annual hallmark event was planned to capitalise on the growing need to showcase the products and help grow the community & networking benefits that arise from these conferences.

The last of the 2017 Power BI World Tour events wrapped up in Sydney, Australia after three months of events in seven cities around the world including, London, Copenhagen, New York,
San Francisco, Toronto, Chicago, and Sydney.

Combined, the World Tour included:

Over 185 breakout sessions

114 speakers from the local User Group and Power BI communities

1031 registered attendees that sold out 6/7 locations.

Each event featured two days full of sessions that extended across three breakout tracks and included a General Session presented by Microsoft that included a Roadmap.

What exciting things can people look forward to?

Attendees (both technical and business users) will see the possibilities of taking data and doing wonderful things with it. Beyond simple reporting, attendees will see advanced analytics, IoT and data modeling and machine learning.

What opportunities are on offer for those attending?

Key things on offer are a collection of world-wide leaders in this technology and the ability to network with them, and other peers in the industry. A selection of more than 60 sessions will be available. Users should expect to walk away with a personal connection
to peers and newfound knowledge to do more with data.

Who will be speaking?

A number of Program Managers from Microsoft USA are
attending, and will be showcasing the roadmap of the product, as well as hot topics like security and data modeling.

What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?

The 3 days are heavy with content, so planning which sessions they want to attend will ensure they get the most out of it.

How can people book tickets / when does it usually sell out?

Full details and registration is done on the website:

First time in Ireland, so not sure if it will sell out.

Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?

– Who should attend: Everyone whose role uses data: including Business Users, Developers, Business Analysts, Power Users, IT Admins, Data Scientists
– A current piece of information is that Microsoft’s BI technology has just been positioned in the best place in the 2018 Gartner Magic Quadrant. Only three vendors are in the top quadrant. Microsoft has been in the top quadrant for 11 years. More details here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/gartner-recognizes-microsoft-as-a-leader-in-analytics-and-bi-platforms-for-11-consecutive-years/
– As FYI, I will be speaking at the event. My session is an IoT demo, where I’ve built a home monitoring solution, where a motion sensor will capture an image, apply facial recognition algorithms and send the data to an online or mobile phone report. This uses a Raspberry Pi, Python scripting and Power BI technologies.
