Senior Executives from Canadian based cyber security company, eSentire, whose European Headquarters are based in Ballincollig, Co.Cork, will be in Cork Institute of Technology today (April 7th) to announce details of a Perpetual Scholarship to be awarded by them to a CIT IT Management Degree Student, specifically pursuing a security forensics course.
CIT President, Dr Brendan Murphy, welcomed the announcement of this very valuable scholarship, which has been established in memory of eSentrie Senior Executive, Yves Beretta, and is named as the “Yves Beretta Memorial Scholarship.” Each year, a sum of €1,500 will be awarded to one second year student and the selected student will also receive the scholarship for each of their subsequent years of study for his/her degree programme. Dr Murphy said, “It is great to see eSentire exercising their social responsibility by awarding this scholarship which will benefit the next generation of our students.”
“The cybersecurity industry is experiencing a critical skills shortage,” said eSentire CEO, J.Paul Haynes. “We applaud CIT for its industry-guided, custom IT, security curriculum. As a leader, we are committed to investing in both our future and that of the cybersecurity industry at large. We’re honoured to support students who have a passion for cybersecurity through the Yves Beretta Memorial Bursary.”
Tim Horgan, CIT’s Head of Department of Computing said, “We are delighted with this eSentire funded scholarship for many reasons, but primarily because it’s focused on supporting students who have a deep interest in a career in the cybersecurity industry.”
Michael Loftus, Head of Faculty of Engineering and Science at CIT said “CIT’s Department of Computing, and Industry Liaison Office, assisted eSentire in making its decision to locate in Cork. The Department produces a significant number of talented graduates with the IT Security expertise needed in Ireland and internationally.”
