When and where is it on?
The conference will be held on the 10th of May in the Brehon Hotel in Killarney
How many years has it been going?
This is the inaugural event.
What was the inspiration to start it?
The conference began from a conversation between Dr. Edward Burke of the University of Nottingham, and Dr. William Sheehan of Killarney Economic Conference, both are historians on conflict and terrorism. They reached out to Dr. David Crozier of Queens University Belfast and Dr. Robert Mauro of Boston College. All shared a common concern that cybercrime and cyber terrorism posed a unique problem for Ireland given the large number of US multinationals here. Dr. Sheehan agreed that Killarney Economic Conference would act as host. The goal is to create a transatlantic dialogue between government, business and academia that focuses on the best solutions, in terms of policy and technology that can protect people and business into the future.
What exciting things can people look forward to?
This conference is unique, it brings together key leaders in cybersecurity from Ireland, the UK and the United States, and from sectors such as defence, law enforcement, business and research for the first time in Ireland. Panels will explore how new partnerships can be created to face future threats both across sectors and countries, how those threats will evolve from state and non-state actors, and how the Irish government can support this emerging industry in Ireland, and how business can evolve and protect themselves into the future.
What opportunities are on offer for those attending?
