Wellington IT, the technology partner to the Irish credit union sector, has announced the launch of its new cloud service to enable credit unions to automate and digitise their operation and member services. This new cloud solution offers clients faster, more flexible and secure access to the country’s only full-service online platform for the credit union sector at the Interxion data centre in Dublin. Cloud customers can expect to save up to 40% on IT costs, when compared to using on-premises machines.

By migrating software into the cloud, credit unions can eliminate many capital expenses and access Wellington IT’s service with back-up power, superior security and automatic access to all technological advancements. For Wellington IT, this migration offers the opportunity to support and service clients’ software and hardware in a world-class data centre environment, making it easier to manage support and upgrade features.

The cloud service uses multiple servers to minimise any risk of service downtime or interruptions during automatic back-ups and technological updates.

Wellington IT’s software is the first to offer full 24/7 access to credit union services and accounts online. The cloud solution was created following a multi-year investment programme and supports the increasingly competitive sector as it enables credit unions to take on traditional banks. By automating and streamlining services, it also frees up credit union employees to carry out more meaningful tasks.

Dublin’s Member First Credit Union was one of the first to adopt the cloud platform. Trevor Montgomery, Members First Credit Union IT Manager said: “Our digital transformation strategy has been massively accelerated by the migration to Wellington IT’s private cloud. The decision was taken as part of our business continuity plan.

“It was so simple. The entire transfer was done over the course of a weekend. Our six branches can now connect independently, so should one branch go down, the others won’t be affected. The most obvious benefit I have noticed is the speed with which processes are now completed. Transactions, reporting and even our end of year routines can now be carried out in half the time required in the past.

“The fact that we no longer have to concern ourselves with looking after physical servers on premises is also a huge benefit, saving precious time and money. Everything is now controlled, serviced and powered remotely by Wellington IT.”

Seven out of the top 10 credit unions in Ireland already use Wellington IT’s digital solution to boost their growth by offering the most convenient overall banking experience to members.
