CPH2 has delivered Ireland’s first-ever electrolyser. The MFE02 Containerised Membrane-Free Electrolyser™ was shipped from CPH2’s Technology Innovation Centre in Doncaster, commissioned, and is ready to produce pure hydrogen and medical grade oxygen.
At the same time, Jon Duffy, Chairman, and CEO has been engaged with private investors to secure a further £3m of funds.
Jon Duffy said, “This new investment will help us to scale the business further to meet the rapid growth and demand of the global electrolyser market, as well as the continued development of our manufacturing processes.”
The CPH2 system produces a mixed gas that is cryogenically separated. It makes use of a highly efficient heat exchanger to recover the cold energy invested in the distillation of the oxygen from the mixed gas stream, and this process renders the separation highly efficient.
The CPH2 safety philosophy ensures complete safety for operators and components alike, unlike membrane-separated technology systems such as PEM and Alkaline, where membrane failure can lead to undetected mixing of gases and consequential catastrophic ignition.
Development Director Ian Pillay said, “This is such a momentous occasion for the company. The team has worked tirelessly to get to this point.
They have put in exceedingly long days and weekends to ensure that we are ready on time. Not even COVID-19 has stopped us, and I am extremely proud of what we have achieved.”
Alongside this successful deployment, CPH2 is currently building MFE220 1MW electrolysers, MFE30, and MFE30+ electrolysers for delivery mid-2021.
With continued investment in R&D, CPH2 aims to advance the levels of efficiency and operating costs to a new level, enabling the company to maintain the position of offering the lowest lifetime cost of hydrogen.
About CPH2
CPH2 are manufacturers of the unique Membrane-Free Electrolyser™. Producing pure hydrogen and medical grade oxygen in a simple, safe, and sustainable manner, and at any scale.
The electrolysers are simple yet robustly engineered to match the 25-year lifespan of wind turbines and solar PV that supply renewable electricity to power them.
Quick to build, giving a short delivery time, the electrolysers do not require membranes or rare Platinum group metals in the stacks and made from readily available materials, with 98% of the components being recyclable.
With more than double the lifespan of PEM and Alkaline electrolysers, and with a modular design, the CPH2 technology is scalable for sub-1MW to multi-GW requirements while offering the lowest OPEX and levelised cost of hydrogen (LCOH) in the industry.
Dr. Nigel Williamson and Joe Scott established CPH2 (Ireland) in December 2012 with the ambition to help clean up the environment for our children and future generations.
Entering the green technology sector, a high growth; and profitable market, they developed a Membrane-Free Electrolyser™ to produce hydrogen faster, more reliably, and more cost-effectively than the incumbent methods that had barriers to adoption, including scalability.
Hydrogen is widely recognised, as the green fuel of the future. It will enable populations and countries to attain net-zero carbon status. CPH2 realised that the cleanest and most efficient way to produce hydrogen was by membrane-free water electrolysis using cryogenic separation, and in doing so, it would be less expensive and more robust technology.
The company opened its Technology Innovation Centre in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, in 2016. CPH2 and now employs 15 people and is ready to start full-scale production, and already has an international business pipeline.
