Interesting interview with Collette Doyle who explains how Covid-19 has put things into perspective
What is your own background briefly?
I have worked in sales and marketing in some capacity or other for almost 20 years (I know I don’t look that old). I started my journey in retail and soon moved from that into Technology followed by the agency life. I have varied experience in both corporate and startups and in many different industries including cosmetics and technology.
My passion really is seeing businesses succeed and I find it particularly excited working with businesses that aren’t afraid to do things a little differently. I recently founded Unfold Digital a full-scale digital marketing consultancy and agency with the goal of helping business unfold their story and tell it to the right people, using the right channels.
Before that, I was the Managing Director of Leading Social an award-winning social media agency based in Dublin for almost two years. Prior to that, I was part of the founding team and worked as Head of Marketing for Logograb an AI company based in Ireland.
Does it seem like a logical background to what you do now?
I think I have always been interested in business and consumer behaviour, why we do certain things and how feelings and emotions really do drive behaviours. I’m a real people person and I love meeting new people, building relationships and sharing ideas.
How was the last 12 months? What were your big wins?
The last twelve months have been insane, I was nominated for the Best CEO for the PWN Global Awards which was such a big deal as my team and company culture are so important to me. I handled the merger of Leading Social which was fantastic to see all my hard work and energy pay off, and I started my own agency Unfold Digital gaining new clients in tech, retail, hospitality, e-commerce and education.
We also won two SOCKIES awards for (Best E-commerce, best Influencer Marketing) and were nominated for two e-commerce awards and three Content Marketing Awards. As you know I have recently taken on the volunteer role of Head of Marketing for Ireland Together and I have spoken at several events both online and offline this year including recently mentoring for Techstars Startup weekend.
What would you have done differently?
I think I would have set up my own agency sooner. Although I loved the team at Leading Social and my clients I really believe in holistic marketing now more than ever. I think the days of doing social for social sake are over and I want to make sure that I can work closer to my clients and get to know their business intimately so that I can bring real value.
1 min pitch for what you are doing now?
I am currently running Unfold Digital, Volunteering as Head of Marketing for Ireland Together and I am on Marketing board for Dublin Business School.

Why did you get involved with this project?
Because I wanted to do something to support people in business and help people who were struggling in this weird and scary time. I’m not a doctor or a nurse so I can’t get involved with helping people through this time in that way but I want to be useful and this is the only way I know-how. I also love the idea of a more open and honest way of doing business and building a community of people who care about supporting each other and aren’t just in it for themselves and the money.
Why do you think it is such a powerful idea?
It really does go back to the idea that more can be achieved together. Yes, we can all keep to ourselves and treat everyone else like competition but if we pull all of our resources together amazing things are bound to happen.
How can people find out more about you personally & your work?
I’m always on Linkedin and Instagram and I love connecting with people and having conversations. Normally you can catch me at Dublin’s Creative mornings and other networking events chewing the ears off someone but at the moment I’m sticking to Zoom calls. I’m also mentoring for What the Hack at the end of this month, this is a really cool initiative by an amazing lady Sophie Benoit and something I’m really excited about being part of.
Who and where do you get inspiration from?
I absolutely love to travel (Obviously not right now), I love to take inspiration from different places I visit and the wonderful people I meet. I also have a great network of friends who are so supportive and openly collaborate. We all work in the creative field and we are always there to give feedback and support when someone needs it.
Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?
I think you’ve covered everything. One thing I will say is that I think Covid-19 has put things into perspective for a lot of people. I’m genuinely more content with my work and life and I see so many positives coming from what is such a negative situation. I think people surprise you in a good way and I hope that people continue with this open and honest approach to business even when this is all over.
