We look at the new book by Sangeeta Waldron who aims to ensure that CSR is not just mere greenwashing for companies. See more details about her upcoming event and book launch here.

Corporate Social Responsibility Is NOT Public Relations, reviewed

We are at important inflection point. Up to now many companies have attempted to greenwash their corporate credentials. Without actually systemically embracing what it actually means to be a sustainable and holistic company, with a true desire to tread lightly on the planet. We will still see climate change deniers, and those trying to drag their heels. Lobbying to defend the status quo, but meanwhile, around them the world moves on. A younger generation expects more than this, and will move on if they feel there is not a true alignment between their own values and companies around them.

In this book Sangeeta Waldron has done a great job of bringing in an interesting and diverse range of interviewees, who have all achieved impressive and transformational results across a wide range of sectors and geographical locations. Arguably the title is a no-brainer, but at the same time as we have only just seen the back of #potus45 and others of a similar inclination. It is important to remember that there has been a lot of resistance to really engaging with the challenges of climate change, achieving real sustainability and actually taking the steps that we need to make to ensure we don’t destroy the planet that we live on.

Waldron argues the case well for those who have yet to get on board. The book is a concise but effective read, and hopefully it will continue the process of illuminating the road that we need to follow. Her event and book launch on the 18th will bring many of the featured speakers in this book together in one place, which should make for interesting listening.

More details about the book here ->

While we have all been navigating these strange and channelling times, I wrote my second book, Corporate Social Responsibility is Not Public Relations published by LID Business Media, who are the fifth largest business book publishing house in Europe. Now, more than ever, it is important for all types of businesses to have authentic Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives that are not a publicity spin. This book demonstrates that CSR is the future of business.

It contains 15 global inspirational interviews with thought leaders and entrepreneurs, including David Katz, CEO of Plastic Bank; Lois Acton, mentored by Anita Roddick, founder of the Bodyshop, Fred Huguez, who escaped the LA gang culture about the essence of sustainability, and more. The foreword is by environmental journalist, Lucy Siegle.

Written during the global pandemic and set where the world is at a tipping point – climate change, plastic pollution, bush fires, disappearing forests and explosive conversations about diversity, and inclusion. The interviews within every chapter, along with the research, show there is international public support for business to do better and that CSR is driving investment. This is the time for all types of business to have CSR as the lifeblood for all their customers and employees.
