Great Interview with Niamh Waters Travel PR & Events Professional (@TravelMedia_ie) and Social media geek. Niamh introduces the upcoming event: Hackathon (#Hack Your City! is a hackathon organised within the frame of ConneXions)
How many years has it been going?
This is the first year that such an event takes place. For the first time in Dublin, French and Irish companies in the fields of culture, education and technology will be gathered. Our goal is to make it a regular event.
What was the inspiration to start it?
#Hack Your City! is a hackathon organised within the frame of ConneXions. As the event is taking place in Richmond Barracks, we wanted to allow the development of creative solutions to address some of the challenges met in Dublin 8.
What exciting things can people look forward to for the 2017 version?
For this year’s hackathon, we have identified three challenges in Dublin 8: one linked with education, one with tourism and culture and one with business opportunities. The jury is composed of managers and directors from big companies, local authorities and start-ups… So, if you want to showcase your talent, this is your chance!
What opportunities are on offer for people / startups / investors and companies attending?
Our partners Dublin City Council and the Local Enterprise Office Dublin City are offering a « Tomorrow’s City Awards » which consists of € 2,500 Prize Pool; Business Mentoring Programme, Place on a Start Your Own Business Course. Fáilte Ireland is providing free entrance to local touristic attractions or for cultural events.
What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?
To be creative and enjoy themselves! Oh and our mentors are going to rock so feel free to network and learn from them!
How can people book tickets / when does it usually sell out?
All the info is our website: http://connexions.ie/hack-your-city . There are only 30 places so don’t wait too long!
Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?
ConneXions and #Hack Your City! is a team work and we are delighted to have all of these great partners on board! We are very thankful to our partners, especially Dublin City Council, Smart Dublin and the Local Enterprise Office, Richmond Barracks and the Digital Hub.
