We look at this positive and interesting book by Dr Christian Busch. You can see more about the book Connect the Dots here.
Connect the Dots The Art and Science of Creating Good Luck, reviewed
Can you make your luck? We’ve heard the quotes about golfers who practice and practice to ensure that they get luckier and luckier. Busch argues that there is a science to it too. What happens is everyone follows these principles? Does that mean we all get lucky, and therefore cancel out the benefits, as surely we can’t all be lucky at the same time? Or can we?
The book is written in an accessible and readable way and we enjoyed reading it. We did find ourselves agreeing with some of his ideas and theories too. Several people around the office also picked it up and dipped into it, which is always a positive sign for a book aiming to reach a wider more general audience. While it would be foolish to sit around waiting for the winner lottery numbers to come up for you, and also counter productive to bemoan your fortune if this event did not happen, Busch does give good examples of things that people have done to increase the percentages in their favour.
You may not agree with every example, and we found some a little debatable, overall we still felt that the ideas were thought provoking and worth engaging with. Well worth checking out, and it is already being passed around the office here.
More about the book
Modern life is full of chance encounters, changing plans, delayed journeys, human errors and other mishaps. But what if we could use such unpredictability to our advantage? Dr Christian Busch has spent a decade exploring how, if acted upon, unexpected encounters can enhance our world view, expand our social circles and create new opportunities.
In this “wise, exciting and life-changing book” (Arianna Huffington) that includes “excellent practical guidance for all” (Paul Polman, former CEO, Unilever). Dr. Busch shows how we can use uncertainty as a pathway to more joyful and purposeful lives. The book is now available in Ireland and internationally.
When I grew up, reading @PenguinBooks (Classics) was one of my favorite pastimes. Opening this box and seeing the logo on my book left me lost for words. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen! pic.twitter.com/AOZAJHF9cX
