Riding against the wave of the holiday rush, privacy protection service Surfshark has launched a campaign supporting ocean cleaning efforts. Under this initiative, Surfshark will match every donation of their subscribers and contribute the double amount to the Surfrider Foundation.
According to the recent studies, there are 5,25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the ocean today. Of which, 269,000 tons float on the surface. Also, it is estimated that approximately 8 million tons of the newly produced plastic end up in the oceans every year.
This festive season, Surfshark has decided to take a different approach on consumerism and encourage people to voluntarily donate a part of their savings from the VPN’s Christmas bargain to the ocean cleaning efforts.
“Plastic pollution is a global problem which has an increasing effect to marine life as well as humankind. The problem is already so big that it can take years to decrease human impact to the ocean wellbeing”, says Paavo Aalto, Head of Communications at Surfshark. “We believe that to change the current situation we all have to contribute to making a difference. Therefore, we will double the amount of all the contributions from our subscribers and donate it to the renowned organization.”
Every new subscriber of Surfshark privacy protection service will be able to choose to donate a selected sum of money to the Surfrider Foundation. In January 2019, at the end of the campaign period, Surfshark will double the number of collected contributions and donate it to the Surfrider Foundation.
“Privacy protection service is a great choice for a sustainable gift because our software does not need to be wrapped in plastic or produced from any non-recyclable material. Also, since it needs no shipping, it’s generally zero-waste, so people can instantly get it from any part of the world via the internet”, explains Paavo Aalto
The Surfrider Foundation, to which Surfshark will donate all the collected proceedings, was established in 1984 by a group of surfers to protect beaches from overdevelopment and pollution. Since then is has become one of the largest non-profit grassroots organizations focusing on ocean and beach protection.
