The work of Galway-based artist Rachel Dubber will be featured as part of the Contemporary Irish Art Center Los Angeles’ (CIACLA’s) global online program on Friday 16th October next.
CIACLA: Call for all artists to take up arms
With Covid-19 curtailing opportunities for in-person exhibits, CIACLA put out an open call for artists across the world to showcase their work with them online, as part of their “Between Me and You” program, designed to bring communities together and offer new ways for people to engage with the arts.
One of just 124 contemporary artists chosen to feature in the program, the piece selected is Rachel’s signature Connemara donkey, “M’asal Beag Dubh”.
“Growing up in the West of Ireland, my artwork has always been inspired by the rugged Connemara landscape – it’s a celebration of the animals and nature that surround me.
Donkeys hold a special place in my heart and throughout my work. They’re a constant connection to my childhood and have taught me valuable life lessons on grit, patience, and resilience.
I’ve needed all of those traits and more in 2020. It’s been a tough year for most of us, but from the challenges have come inspiration, hope, and ingenuity.”
Animal portrait specialist Rachel launched her range of sustainably-produced giftware in 2018, which has now expanded to include several Irish animal-themed designs.
“M’asal Beag Dubh was the first of my artworks to feature on my product line, so it’s fitting that he gets the chance to be celebrated in this way”.
The exhibition is running from August through to November 2020 and you can find out more about CIACLA’s “Between Me and You” Program by visiting https://ciacla.com/program/.
