Today, the institute that represents over 27,000 chartered accountants across the island of Ireland will launch its new curriculum and bring the profession into a bright, modern and tech-savvy future.

Educating Future Ready Chartered Accountants will bring changes to Chartered Accountants Ireland professional accountancy curriculum that involve final year students tackling new modules around technology and data.

At the heart of the new curriculum is a new module on Data Analytics carefully crafted by The Information Lab Ireland. The module encompasses knowledge around best practices in data analytics as well as the development of skills in dynamic data reporting software tools Tableau and Alteryx.

“At the heart of great accountants is the ability to communicate complex ideas or  results in a way that people can understand,” says John Munnelly, FAE Syllabus Development at Chartered Accountants Ireland. “When I first saw the power of Tableau and Alteryx and saw how they can explain business through visualization, for me it was a no-brainer. These tools have the ability to cut through complexity and get to the heart of issues that maybe heretofore either went unnoticed or were discussed in a traditional format.”

“Accountants have an excellent understanding of financial statements and the methodology behind them,” says Dave Hackett, CEO of The Information Lab Ireland. “With data visualisation, data-automation and workflow skills, they will play a much more dynamic role in an organisation. It has been a pleasure to be part of this enhanced offering to accountants through the Chartered Accountants Ireland.”
