You know when things are changing, when, instead of holistic leader books, it is now all about dealing with organisational change today, in the light of the last year and beyond that we have experienced. Already it is clear that not all staff and employees want to return to the same way of working as it was before. Apple are witnessing pushback from staff about a minimum of three days per week in the office. Some will debate that productivity is higher when everyone is in the office, whereas most employees will see all the benefits of zero commuting, and all the associated childcare logistics around dropping them off and collecting them again.
In this context there is certainly a lot to play for, with no one clear blueprint of the best way to navigate going forwards. Kotter and his coauthors cover a wide range of topics, and considerations around this whole subject.
There are some interesting ideas, and, with so many different possible ways to manage the change and disruption that has been unleashed, this book is a useful additional to the growing pile looking at organisational change. There is certainly a lot to play for, with many different ideas being tried out. Books like this are worth reading to broaden your armoury and have a range of ideas and approaches in your tool kit. It is a quick read too.
